Summertime makeup woes are a real thing. From an obsessively oily t-zone to choosing between cream, gel, and powder applications, we’ve all felt the wrath of trying to maintain a beat face this season.
However, there’s hacks, tips, tricks, and solutions for everything and thankfully Lijha Stewart, MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Director of Artistry and Education, has the answers. ESSENCE recently caught up with Stewart, asking her how ladies can keep their foundation from melting in the summer heat, to which she answered, “Primer acts like velcro for your foundation, while setting spray locks your foundation in place.”
Of course, keeping your makeup in place also has to deal with the products you choose and it’s ingredients. “The right summer primer for your skin type is important!” she continued. “Meaning, if you have oily skin, avoid primers that have too much silicone. This can cause more slipping and moving of your foundation. Instead, try a primer that is water-based or oil-controlling, as this can provide a more stable base and allow the primer to soak into skin rather than floating on top.”
