After locking down a partnership with New York & Company, announcing her plans to release a book and launching her own hair care product line, Flawless, Gabrielle Union, 44, continues to make major moves. This time, she has good news to share in her acting and producing career.
According to Deadline, the Being Mary Jane star is partnering with current BMJ executive producer Will Packer on a new film called Breaking In, which she will both produce and star in. The film will reportedly be a drama about a woman who has to go to great lengths to protect her loved ones during a home invasion. It’s sounding pretty Panic Room-y right now, but that’s a good thing and a great leading role opportunity for Union. Breaking In will be directed by James McTeigue, who has been behind the lens for action flicks including V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin, Survivor and a film called The Invasion. So it sounds like Union will have to get physical for the flick, which beings filming in July.
This isn’t the first possible action film for Union though. She starred in Bad Boys II and Cradle to the Grave, which were hits. This will also be her third production credit, as she’s done Being Mary Jane, Almost Christmas and the 2015 TV movie With This Ring. Interesting enough, I ran across an interview from 2004 where Union was asked where she saw her career in 10 years, and being a producer was what she was hoping for.
“I see my self probably producing; a lot more producing and probably doing sitcoms,” she told BlackFilm.com. “I love sitcoms because you get paid a lot of money and it doesn’t take up too much of your time. I also intend to do some writing.”
