Last week we reported the rumors that “Scandal” would be ending after this upcoming season.

And this week, we have confirmation. Straight from Shonda Rhimes’ own mouth–or hand.

Before she released a statement of her own, Channing Dungey, ABC’s entertainment president, said that he and Shonda have always had conversations about her vision for the show and he said that she’s always envisioned seven seasons.

This upcoming season is rumored to contain a smaller number of episodes than the previous seasons. But an official episode count has not been determined–or released.

In a statement released yesterday, Rhimes said: “Deciding how to end a show is easy. Deciding when to finish is quite simple when the end date is years away. But actually going through with it? Actually standing up to say: ‘This is it?’ Not so much. So, next year we are going all out. Leaving nothing on the table. Creating this world in celebration. We are going to handle the end the way we like to handle the important things in our Scandal family: all together, white hats on, Gladiators running full speed over a cliff.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter  sixth season, the election of Donald Trump as the president of United States affected the course of the show. Reportedly producers had to “scrap a planned storyline about Russians hacking the show’s presidential election when reality hit too close to home.”

Back in April, Rhimes spoke told THR about the show’s uncertain future.

“Any of the stories we planned now just feel like we’re copying what’s happening in reality, which is insane,” she said. “I used to know how it ended, and then Donald Trump was elected. We had a destination, and I don’t know if that’s our destination anymore.”

So what’s up for Shonda Rhimes? The network is launching the Romeo and Juliet inspired drama “Still Star-Crossed.” There is also the pickup of their series “For the People” which is being described as the legal version of “Grey’s Anatomy.” And then there’s the continuation of “How To Get Away With Murder,” where she serves as the executive producer.

She’s still good.
