Got a few lip color faves you wouldn’t dare get rid of but just want to kick up a notch? Or maybe you want to go from work to the club on Friday night without having to redo your entire makeup look. An easy way to take your lip look from basic to bad (you know, in the good way) is to invest in a few Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoats from Urban Decay.
I already fell in love with UD’s lipsticks a year ago when the brand completely revamped their lip line and launched 100 new shades at once. And when their line of Liquid Lipsticks debuted this winter, it was basically like me and Urban Decay go together. Now that these special effects topcoats are here — let’s just say I’m not really looking at any other lip colors right now.
I should clarify and say, now that I know these special effects top coats are bomb AF.
It’s true, I really didn’t know what to do with the shade-morphing liquids when I first had a chance to try them. Remember, I was already happy with my Vice shades as is and as much as I love glitter lips and other types of lip art on other people, I just wasn’t sure I could really pull off the look. But this past weekend I decided to give the colors a try and I was instantly mad I hadn’t done so sooner.
The 12 topcoats come in a range of whites, purples, and pinks along with a shade of gold, blue, green, and red that have shimmer, glitter, and metallic effects. Here’s how five of them looked on me.
Vice Liquid Lipstick in Naked vs. Vice Liquid Lipstick in Naked + Vice Special Effects Topcoat In White Lie
Vice Liquid Lipstick in Twitch vs. Vice Liquid Lipstick in Twitch + Vice Special Effects Topcoat In Monarchy
Vice Liquid Lipstick in Pandemonium vs Vice Liquid Lipstick in Pandemonium + Vice Special Effects Topcoat In Reverb
Vice Liquid Lipstick in Rapture vs Vice Liquid Lipstick in Rapture + Vice Special Effects Topcoat In Bruja
MAC Retro Matte in Young Attitude vs MAC Retro Matte in Young Attitude + Vice Special Effects Topcoat In Circuit
As you can see, you can either go super bold with the color transformations using White Lie or Reverb or have a more muted effect like I had with Bruja. And, as shown with the green shade, you can use the special effects topcoats with other lipsticks — liquid or otherwise — which makes them a pretty dope $18 investment that allows you to switch up your current lip shades without having to toss out colors you don’t feel as much anymore and buy a bunch of new ones.
I don’t know if my face conveys how in love I am with these topcoats, but I was making all sorts of Instagram stories to show off the effects which photos don’t even do justice. What I loved most was the topcoats didn’t feel like I was doing “too much.” I didn’t find myself wondering where I could wear lips like these because I literally could wear them anywhere, especially the more natural options like 3rd Degree (a gold glitter) and Fever (a pinkish-red shade). I definitely suggest you add a few of these to your beauty arsenal and get creative this summer.
